A mineral’s hardness is based on the Moh’s Hardness Scale.

EDIT: An emerald has a hardness of 8.5 on the Mohs Scale. That is considered hard. The Mohs Hardness Scale goes from one through ten.

A calibrated stone is cut to fit the “standard” sizes of mountings/settings as established by the industry by convention/usage.
Each standard varies by shape (e.g. Oval, rectangle, round, etc) typically they are 4×5, 8×10, 10×12. The advantage in buying a calibrated stone is that you can buy a exact fit calibrated setting off the shelf and not have to custom make one. E.g 2×8, 7×13, 2×2 etc.

each of them were covered with cloth and stitching,they were al by the sidewalk and I found them. I was hiding from my friend a the time.
