How can I determine if a gem stone I bought, is a ruby, as was stated by seller, and not Ruby colored Jade.?
I don’t have the proper magnification equipment to look for ‘tell tale’ bubbles in fauxe ruby. I created a piece of jewelry with this alleged Ruby, stated that the piece included a Ruby but have since learned that the seller often uses ‘unclear terminology’ and likes to combine words like “Ruby” and “Gemstone” which technically could be Jade, but leads one to believe it is a gemstone of the type Ruby. I need to know before I ship this. I understand that this retail niche has a lot of folks in it who don’t know a their head from the head of a pin and I believe weather or not I have been ‘wronged’ It is my responsibility to make certain my claims are factual and if misrepresentations have been made, that the perpetrators are reported and if needed, exposed as frauds. I can get you to a high resolution image online if you think you can determine this visually….and more then 10 points await the best answer…merchandise from my shop if you want something for the best answer

If the stone has an edge (facet), try the scratch test on glass. Glass has a MOH’s hardness of 7. True jade or serpentine which is often dyed and called “Jade” have hardnesses lower than 7 and will not scratch glass. Ruby, with a Moh’s hardness of 9 will scratch glass.

Blue Topaz vs. Aquamarine vs. Blue Zircon, which one is better?
I’ve just bought a Blue Topaz a week ago because I want a gemstone that have a rich blue color. I picked Blue Topaz because Aquamarine gemstones are more expensive and yet the blue color is not deep enough. But when I went to my gemologist friend, he said it wasn’t a blue Topaz, it’s actually a blue Zircon. He told me that my gemstone have a good physical appearance and I can see a hint of green color under heavy white light without disturbing the rich blue color. Even when I took its picture with a camera I just can’t capture the green color, it can only seen by naked eye.
I just wondering, how good is it if I compare it with Aquamarine or blue Topaz? Should I be happy if my gemstone is actually a blue Zircon?
crystal power answers:
Blue Topaz is much prettier than either of those and it’s still pretty pricey in the high end stores, I bought my grandmother a 300 dollar necklace with blue topaz stones so I personally vote for blue topaz.

Chris asks…
what might this dream mean?
Last night, I had trouble sleeping. Normally, I sleep the entire night without ever waking. I made coffee and drank a couple of cups. I went back to bed and read a little. During the two hours that I slept before waking again, I seemed to have fallen fast into R.E.M., I dreamed about holding a golden snake by the head. It was a super long snake and somewhat thick. The body of the snake seemed to stretch beyond a sand dune distance behind me that I could not see over. I got the sense that someone else was holding the tail end; I never saw another person, but I could tell because the snake seemed like elastic as I walked forward with its head held in my right hand. It never struggled while I held it. The snake was more than golden. I don’t remember the color of the eyes; they were white, maybe, but the body was the color of the gemstones that were exposed all over the desert that surrounded me. The sky was the color of the classic blue crayon. There were sapphires, rubies, emerald, opals, and gold jutting from mountains with plateaus; the same gems were also scattered across the sand. Along with the gems and the snake I was holding, there were other snakes of the same type in the area. They were smaller and less long. They were doing their own thing, just lying where they were, and didn’t seem to notice I was even there. While holding the snake, I saw two similar snakes fighting each other. Neither seemed to be winning or losing, or hurting the other, but one was bigger than the other and both snakes had their fangs exposed, striking at each other but not connecting. Normally, being in an environment like this would have terrified me. I’m not a fan of snakes, but I do respect them because I know that tradition teaches us they are very powerful symbols. In the dream, however, I wasn’t afraid at all. The last thing I remember about the dream before I woke was that the type of snake I was holding was called the Cuttlesnake. I’ve never heard of that type of snake before, so I googled it when I woke. The closest thing I found was reference to a cuttlefish. Any thoughts?

It could mean that recently you’ve had an innovative idea for a product. The dream tells you that you will be successful. It will not happen over night, but you will be able to make it happen. It also tells you that there are products out here that are similar, but yours is a “New and Improved” version. It also tells you that there will be copy cats, but they will soon fizzle out.
Good luck, and let me know how right or wrong I am so far.

Book Read as a Child, Can’t Remember it!?
I read a fantasy book as a child, and could not remember the name of it in a discussion yesterday.
I do not remember the author either… However, I remember vague description.
It follows (I think) mostly children/teenagers throughout, but also their father, who might be perceived dead? It is a book with a very stringent class system, marked by colors. The servants wear white, and as you move up the colors of the rainbow define rankings, and I believe one of the main characters’ uncle was of the indigo class (possibly illegitimately). Also, a class involving red, I think, had some sort of quest to find their gemstone.
Does anyone have any recollection of author or title?
Thanks for any help!

The Wind Singer trilogy by William Nicholson?
In the dystopian city of Aramanth, family ratings determine position, housing and privileges within the society’s color-coded caste system. As the novel opens, the Hath family brings two-year-old Pinpin for her first day of “testing”Awith comically disastrous results. Shortly after, Kestrel, the Haths’ strong-headed and brave daughter, stages a rebellion in a riotously depicted scene at school and eventually ends up climbing the wind singer (a giant archaic structure whose history is nearly forgotten) to hurl curses at the town. Events escalate, and soon Kestrel, her twin brother (who has supernatural abilities to empathize with others) and a learning-disabled classmate, Mumpo, find themselves on a quest to retrieve the wind singer’s voice; according to legend, it will restore harmony to Aramanth. Nicholson is at his best when he adheres to Kestrel’s point of view; occasional shifts in perspective may temporarily break readers from the author’s spell. Highly original characters, such as the loving “Mudpeople” who inhabit a world under the city’s grid-like streets, and “old children” whose touch zaps the life from normal humans, exert a powerful fascination.

please help me…… am going crazy with this stone
crystal power answers:
Well, it all depends, how clean is your material and what Origin? Namibia? Nigerian? Is it a bright Orange Mandarin Garnet that is cleaner or more cabachon material. Is it a bit darker red? Also, how big of crystals? When faceted an polished, what will be the average carat weight of each stone. It is these factors that will help determine a price….
