Steven asks…
Rings: Can you buy one and have a gemstone added, or replaced?
I would like to purchase a men’s ring, wedding band or similar and have a Ruby placed in it. I am not sure if jewelers will do this, and if so will they do it for a ring purchased elsewhere? Or, must it be done to a ring that already had a setting, or can it be added to a smooth, plain ring? It’s very difficult to find mens rings with gemstones- any advice would be helpful!
crystal power answers:
Yes, you have a few different options here.
1) places like Zales have monthly events where a jeweler comes in and you can choose a setting and a stone and mix& match the way you want
2) check out the jeweler’s catalog Rio Grande, and you can buy the prong setting separately from the band, and then have any reputable jeweler put them together. It’s actually a really simple thing to do. You can also buy empty ring settings.
3) you can buy your gem here, I’ve always used Thai gem and I’ve always been very happy with their products. Http://www.thaigem.com/

Ken asks…
Where can I find gemstone stack rings?
I prefer them in sterling silver, not too expensive, and come in a variety of gemstones so I can choose. Thanks!

John asks…
Looking for uniquely designed colored gemstone rings, can anyone guide me to good websites or jewlers?
www.aringthing.com has some amazing designs for colored gemstone rings, but i am looking to see if they are any other options out there. If anyone can help me to a website or some jewelery stores that cater to this style of ring please let me know. Thanks so much.

Check out www.earthresourcesjewelry.com
Earth Resources Jewelry in Appleton, Wisconsin. Unfortunately the website is being redone but gives store contact information.

Carol asks…
Can you wear 2 of the same gemstone rings at a time? Like, one on each hand.?
I recently purchased an emerald ring, in white gold and love it. My mother also got me a really nice emerald ring for my birthday, in sterling silver. I’m not all that into fashion, but would it be too excessive to wear the one on one hand and the other ring on the other hand? They’re both nice looking, I just can’t decide if that would be too gaudy or if this is “fashionably” acceptable.
Thanks!
crystal power answers:
If the rings are similar in style, it’s okay to wear them together.
Because you love them both (or love one and think the other is really nice), you should limit wearing them together. Wear the white gold one more regularly, as it should be much more durable. The sterling silver one is not going to be anywhere near as durable, so you will want to either limit wearing it, or get it checked frequently so you don’t lose stones out of the setting.
Speaking from experience,
–I destroy sterling chains regularly and stick to white gold for my sterling pendants now;
–I used to wear an emerald and diamond anniversary band on one hand, and a tsavorite ring on the other, damaged both so limit it to once in awhile now (tsavorite is a green garnet, looks similar to emerald)
–Emeralds are not the most durable stones, and can be easily chipped/damaged, so you may want to limit wearing them unless you have a desk job and never have to stick your hands in a copier or printer, etc.
