Your Questions About Engagement Rings Jared

Betty asks…

What Jewler is better to buy a Engagement ring at? Jared or Ben Bridge?

My girlfriend has two favorites one is at Jared, one at Ben Bridge. I want to know which company provides better care of their rings, better quality, Better service agreement, Better prices and better customer care. A side by side comparison if you will. these are Engagement rings. over 3,000 dollars for ring care purposes.
Not looking for better rings or better prices these are the ones she wants. One at Jared one at Ben Bridge looking for people’s personal expierence at both.

crystal power answers:

Neither.

You can more bang for your hard earned $$$ elsewhere.

I got my wife’s ring at Diamond Brokers of Florida:

http://www.dbof.com/

http://www.diamondring.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1054

Or you could check out these other online sources:

www.WhiteFlash.com

www.GoodOldGold.com

www.ExcelDiamonds.com

www.BlueNile.com

Blue Nile’s database is good, but they don’t provide you with photos or analysis reports of the diamond. I wouldn’t go with them for that reason.

Happy hunting.

Lizzie asks…

Has anyone heard of the engagement ring sale at Jared The Galleria Of Jewelry?

I saw a commercial the other day something about up to one thousand dollars off of any engagement ring setting. Has anyone heard anything about this sale? I cant find anything on the Jared website.

crystal power answers:

I went to Jareds last night with my fiance to make a payment on my engagement ring and I didn’t see any signs about the discount your talking about, nor was the store full with customers (which you would think it would be it they had a sale like that).

I don’t really like their customer service but the jewelry is stunning!!

Hope your experience with them is better than mine :o )

Donna asks…

Can I return or exchange jewelry (my engagement ring) to Jared?

I have had my engagement ring for only 10 months, and the side diamonds have fallen out 4 different times. The jewelry store “Jared” (where the ring is from) keeps telling me that it is because I am probably rough with it – which I am NOT. I LOVE the ring, and they repair for free, but that’s not the point – I just don’t want to deal with the inconvenience forever. Any suggestions? Thanks!

crystal power answers:

Yes. You have a manufacturers defect. In 10 months you physically can not be rough enough to knock stones out of rings. Even if you were wearing it while doing the X-games. You are legally required to allow them the opportunity to fix it. You have and they have refused to fix the situation. Calmly explain to them that you have legally fulfilled your obligation and that the ring is defective. You would like to return it or exchange it for a ring that is not so poorly manufactured.

Places like Jared’s seem to work better when you explain forcefully while using words like “legally”. But no, you do not have to deal with this inconvenience forever.

Helen asks…

If you buy en engagement ring at Jared and finance it, can you home without paying the full price?

crystal power answers:

Can you take it home?
Same as buying anything on credit but yes you pay the full price you signed for.

Michael asks…

jared engagement ring upgrade?

this pertains to a jared engagement ring trade-in / upgrade. if i trade a 3000 doller engagemtent ring, valued at the original price, in for one of double or more value, will they allow the credit of the $3000 ring be put toward a down payment or is it simply knocked off the price?

crystal power answers:

All of my jewelry has been purchased at Jared, including my engagement ring, and every time we are told that diamonds never lose their value, you can trade it in for the full price of the diamond, but it will be put towards your upgrade, you will not have store credit. If your rings total cost is $3,000, that includes the setting, so you will receive the cost of the diamond, ONLY, towards your upgrade. There should have been 3 or 4 certificates that came with your ring, I have one that shows the cost of the diamonds, the cost of the sapphires, and the cost of the setting.

Your Questions About Diamond Jewelry Cleaner

Sandra asks…

What else can I use to clean a diamond ring besides jewelry cleaner?

crystal power answers:

Sudsey ammonia–get at any grocery store! Soak overnight and, if needed, scrub with a VERY soft brush to get stuck-on particles off the underside of the stone or anything caught in the gallery (mounting). Works like a charm!

Only use this method on hard non-porous gemstones like diamonds, sapphires, tanzanite—not on pearls, turquoise, etc.

Toothpaste does not work well at all since it contains abrasives which will scratch and dull the stone’s surface over time and will certainly dull the finish of the metals. I wouldn’t use something made to scrape plaque off my teeth to clean an expensive gemstone–but hey, that’s your choice.

I agree w/ allie—white vinegar also does a nice job.

Betty asks…

How do you clean a Tanzinite and Diamond ring without using jewelry cleaner?

I got a ring for my birthday from my boyfriend and it could really use a shining. And I don’t have any cleaner at home. Any ideas?????

crystal power answers:

Use Dove dishwashing liquid in warm water – Dove Dishwashing Liquid will take the grease off. Do this once a week and you will not have a build up of dirt or grime or grease. Here is a link about Tanzanite (the picture of that gorgeous pendant is not a Tanzanite (it’s a blue spinel), but the information should be useful)

Good Luck!

Steven asks…

I left my diamond ring in the jewelry cleaner solution for like 4 hours, is that bad?

The diamond is all cloudy now, could I have ruined the diamond?
It was an accident!

crystal power answers:

No ..it really should be fine, I have some really good diamonds and I sometimes soak them over night ….get a real soft brush and brush it lightly and rinse it real well while you are brushing it. I know with mine it is fine to leave them.

Good Luck !
Merry Christmas ~~~~

Donald asks…

What is the best way to clean a diamond solitaire ring, other than with jewelry cleaner?

crystal power answers:

You need to use jewelry cleaner, unless you have a steamer of some kind. If you have one of those Scunsi steamers, use some long handled pliers to hold on to the ring so you don’t burn your fingers.

Jenny asks…

whats a good way besides store bought jewelry cleaner to clean a pair of diamond studs.?

Besides the usual jar of cleaner what can you use around the house to clean a small pair of diamond studs..Thanks!

crystal power answers:

Tooth paste with baking soda and a small soft bristle tooth brush. Put the tooth paste on the brush, rub it with your finger so that it is mixed already add a little water and clean inside where the diamond sets on the prong. Rinse them well, take a small soft cloth and dry and buff a little and they look great. If you want poor some peroxide in a small cup and let them soak for a couple minutes and dry with cloth. I do this with mine all the time and my daughter cannot believe how much better they look. She always wants me to clean her jewelry. Also if you have something with a little steam this really makes them shine. Good luck….

Your Questions About Wedding Jewelry Rental

Ken asks…

Jewelry rental places in La Crosse, WI?

I’m getting married and would like a little bling to wear on my wedding day, but I can’t really afford any diamond jewelry and even if I could buy them I’m not a person who would wear those diamonds (other than my wedding ring) on a regular basis.

Does anyone know of any great jewelry places in the La Crosse, WI area that rents out jewelry? If there’s also any places you would absolutely NOT recommend to go for jewelry rental (bad service, etc) that would be great, too.

crystal power answers:

I’m assuming you’re getting this idea from red carpet events, and the fact that many jewelers lend out their high end jewelry to celebrities for events. This is not the case for the “normal” population, however. Jewelers generally only make these exceptions for celebrities who can prove they have enough money in the bank, or enough insurance, to cover the cost of the jewels should anything happen to them. If you are friends with a jeweler, however, you may be able to get them to make an exception in your case. It never hurts to check.

Sharon asks…

Where can I rent or borrow jewelry in Canada?

My sister’s wedding is coming in April and I am her bridesmaid but with the economy now I don’t really want to spend too much money on my accessories. I google and most of the good jewelry rental service is not for Canadian. Anybody know where I can rent jewelry or accessories in Canada?

crystal power answers:

Hi my sister friend get same problems as you. She looks for pearl jewellery. We check all local jewellery stores but do not have this service, or price so high until yesterday my friend sent me this web. The photo look like very real and good also price is very reasonable, go to check out www.rentmyaccessories.com , I wish it will help you.

Mary asks…

My Wedding Budget // Solid?

The prices I have listed are the ones I’ve been quoted for from the places I’ve picked out, so these aren’t guesses. Feel free to comment on any of the areas and let me know if I’m paying way too much (or if I’m getting a great deal). I’m just trying to make sure I have all bases covered.

Venue: $5,250
(This is the total for the fully decorated ceremony and reception. Includes officiant, full buffet-style meal, cake, music, bartender (not alcohol), wedding planning sessions, no rentals necessary. Includes $150 rehearsal fee.)

Bride and Groom Attire: $1000
(My dress is around $450, so I rounded up to $600 for alterations along with $150 for veil and jewelry. Tux rental budgeted to $250 including shoes.)

Flowers and Decor: $1100
(This is what I was quoted for minimal additional decor for the ceremony and reception, bouquets, and additional flower arrangements.)

Invitations: $400
(Includes invitations with envelopes, reply cards with envelopes, and thank you cards with envelopes. This also includes postage.)

Jewelry: $1750
(Included $1500 for my ring and $500 for his, according to prices we saw online. $1000 of mine will come from trading in my engagement ring — our decision.)

Liquor: $250
(Beer and wine for 75 guests, only 45 of which are legal drinking age and will be drinking.)

Photography: $1500
(Includes the photographer, some prints, and three CDs with pictures for us to print. Four-hour wedding day coverage.)

Beauty and Pampering: $250
(I’m getting my hair done for $50, estimated spray tan at $100, $50 for make-up, and $50 for nails and toenails.)

These are my big money or major items. I know I will be spending money here and there on things, can anyone see anything I may have missed? This also doesn’t include the honeymoon, obviously.
I’m feeding 75 with the $5250. I was so lucky to find this venue! It’s beautiful and includes like 90% of everything we need for the wedding day. Thanks for mentioning the marriage license! I never even thought of that. No clue how much that will be!

crystal power answers:

Whether or not these are good prices depends entirely upon where you are. If you are in new york city, you are stealing this wedding.

If you are in a small town in the south or midwest, it is a little pricey for some of the items.

But overall, it is okay. The invitations are a liitle steep but you said that included the postage, so i guess that’s okay there.

The photographer is a great price.

I am a little surprised at the cost of your wedding ring. That seems pretty high for just the wedding ring especially if you have to give up your engagement ring for it. You didnt say what type of ring it is or what grade of stones or anything so it’s hard to say, but it ought to be really nice with high quality stones and platinum metal for that price.

The venue is obviously an all-inclusive place and those are normally pretty good deals. You are paying about 65 dollars per person for the venue and food, which is okay depending upon where you are located again. It would be a good price in new york or california or florida, but a little on the high side in some other locations, and downright pricey in others.

The tuxedo rental price is also sort of high. Actually, many places rent the grooms tuxedo free of charge if other members of the wedding party get theirs from the same place. Don’t know where you went, or what type of tux you wanted but menswearhouse located at david’s bridal stores has the cheapest ones price wise.

The rest seems pretty good. But again, it really depends upon where you are located.

Daniel asks…

NO rental insurance, a theft and income taxes.?

I have been living in a rental home for 6-7 months but still pay home owners insurance on a home we are selling so I didn’t get rental insurance yet. Problem is I had a theft in my rental home 2 weeks ago and yes I did file a police report. What was stolen were many years of savings bonds and 2 wedding bands and 3 diamonds in addition to just some random personal items. The rings have more sentimental value than anything but someone recently told me you can claim this as a loss on your income tax. My question is, is it worth it to even do it and do you actually get anything back from it? Id much rather have my jewelry and yes feel like a total idiot since I pay for a home I don’t live in and not where I do live. Any advice?

crystal power answers:

You are going to hate what I have to say.

See IRS publication 547 for the rules. You’d list each item stolen, the fair market value and your cost basis (you deduct the lesser of what you paid or the fair market value). Then you subtract $100 *and* you subtract 10% of your adjusted gross income. If anything is left, you put it on schedule A and if you can itemize, your taxable income and tax bill will go down.

Let’s say your income is $50,000 and your loss was $10,000. $10,000 – $100 -$5000 = $4900. If you already itemize and are in the 15% tax bracket, you’d get a reduction in tax of $735.

Since a savings bond can’t be cashed without ID, go to treasury direct and get the form for lost bonds and send it in. Maybe they can be reissued.

Your Questions About Crystal Skulls 2012

Sharon asks…

What is the connection between Mayan beliefs of the crystal skulls, Quetzalcoatl, and the world ending in 2012

crystal power answers:

Indiana Jones

Steven asks…

Do you think the world will end on 12-21-2012? mayan calander, crystal skulls, Nostradamus, etc…?

crystal power answers:

There’s not a single scrap of scientific evidence behind any of it. It’s been invented by crackpots and exploited by con artists trying to make a fast buck out of gullible people by selling them books, survival kits and other useless junk.
There will be no pole shift, Planet X/Nibiru, deadly solar storm, rare alignment, photon belt nor any other of the made-up nonsense. It’s just a heap of garbage.

Lisa asks…

The Crystal Skulls and how we need to find them by 2012?

I know this probably isn’t a big issue to most people, but it is to arceologist and me.I find these kinds of mysteries interesting and I want to learn more. I looked up many things on the internet about the crstals skulls and I read about how most of them are scattered around the world. Some might be in jungles and the seas. Mayan legend say that 2012 is the Doom day of the world and only the crystal skulls can save us. That also means that im only going to be 19 years old by that time. What do people think about this whole mystery thing?

crystal power answers:

It’s a longtime hoax that people keep falling for, and unfortunately it’s come back into focus once again with the release of the latest Indiana Jones film. Don’t confuse the plot of a movie with reality. The skulls have no bearing on 2012 — and no doomsday is going to occur then anyway.

http://skepdic.com/crystalskull.html

http://www.csicop.org/si/2006-04/nickell.html

Like the British Museum and investigator Joe Nickell both note, they aren’t ancient artifacts, but modern forgeries.

“Some of them have been attributed to the work of Aztec, Mixtec or even Maya stone workers. Others are said to be examples of colonial Mexican art, for use in churches, perhaps as bases for crucifixes.

Scientists at the British Museum have concluded that the quartz crystal used in the manufacture of this example is likely to have come from Brazil. Moreover, it bears traces of the use of a jeweller’s wheel, which was unknown in the Americas before the arrival of the Europeans. These traces and the high polish of its surface indicate that it was carved using traditional European techniques.”

Let’s leave fantasy in the movie, where it belongs..

Maria asks…

MYSTERY OF THE CRYSTAL SKULLS??? end of the world by dec 21 2012???

are we gonna be gone by dec 21 2012? let hope not.. we been still alive and still have problems with air or earthquakes and volances and tumanais everything happening in our world.. but end of the world?? id ont want to dead by end of the world..

crystal power answers:

Biblically speaking, the bible prophesies about the last days. It speaks in the book of Matthew 24 that there will be wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes in various places, famine, and pestilence. Just listen to the news for five minutes and you’ll see it come true. Most significant is the prophesy in the book of Ezekiel that tells of the Jews being scattered, then brought back to the land that was promised to them. This came true in 1948 when Israel became a nation.
The bible also clearly tells us that no one knows the day or the hour in which God will come, but He does tell His people to be watchful. He gives us these signs and many more to warn us of the times of the end, describing the earth as having “birth pangs”.
If you don’t believe me, search the Bible for yourself. The books Matthew, Revelation, Ezekiel, Daniel, Isaiah, etc. Speak of the things to come.
But to not be afraid. The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 that if you confess with you mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Surrender your life to Jesus. He is the only way to life everlasting. He says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except by Me.”

Linda asks…

Do the Mayans believe in crystal skulls and think a spiritual change will happen in 2012?

I never knew this but the Mayans have their own high council of Elders that have political influence in Mexico and Guatemala. These high ranking mayan officials are going on a pilgrimage across the USA with the 13 Crystal skulls that will help bring about the shift in material and spiritual consciousness. All the information can be found here:

http://wakeup-world.com/2011/10/20/the-mayan-elders-the-13-crystal-skulls-the-importance-of-their-upcoming-ceremonial-pilgrimage-across-the-usa/

More on this Mayan council can be founded here:

http://www.kachina.net/~alunajoy/2009april.html

http://in5d.com/mayan-elder-speaks.html

So something will happen when the calender ends.

crystal power answers:

No crystal skulls are a 196th century hoax, and are most likely made in Europe
2012 is also a big scam
