What adhesive should be used to set a diamond in a gold ring?
I am looking at making my very own solid gold diamond ring, buying the ring setting, and the loose diamond separately and setting them together myself.
I have done other settings before, but I want this to be as high quality as I can make it.
What adhesive should I use to set the diamond into the 18ct gold ring setting?
I’ve come across one type of adhesive that seems popular, and its quite cheap, but would it be good enough to really hold the diamond in place?
Its called Diamond Glaze Pendant Sealer.
It is advertised as being used to set diamonds into a setting.
I just read that adhesive is not really needed, if you can manipulate the prongs properly to hold the diamond in place.
I have never worked with gold before, so I’m not sure what tools would be best, to create a good fit for the diamond.
Here is a link to the gold ring I am thinking of buying.
Could someone suggest some specific tools that I should use to make this gold setting fit the diamond?
Don’t do it. A diamond should not be set with adhesive. The ring should be formed with prongs or a bezel that will hold the diamond in place allowing as much light as possible to pass through the stone. The adhesive you are looking at is to set flat backed crystals onto metal and other materials, and is not intended for use with real gemstones which, by the way, usually have a faceted back, and are not flat on the bottom.
