I want something to do with my hands, and I was wondering if you could cut, or shape rocks and gemstones into shapes. How is it done and can it be done without expensive equipment?

to do it properly it takes some very expensive equiptment. But if you go to www.amfed.org it has a list of rock and mineral clubs in your area. a lot of the time they have work shops wher they will teach you how to do it. by the way its called lapidary, the cutting and polishing of stones.
