How much are real sapphire stones for men?

I was wanting to know, how you can tell real sapphire stones from fake ones. And how much they cost?

Answer
You need special electronic instruments or a lot of experience to tell real sapphire from synthetic. Some of the lower quality sapphire has natural inclusions with are visible with a magnifier or even the naked eye. That tells you they are natural.

Price for sapphire (and any other gemstone) depends on the quality (eye clean etc.), the color (dark blue sapphire is a lot cheaper than light blue, pink, orange etc.), the saturation of color, the size of the gemstone and how it is cut.

Here is a link where you can see very affordable dark blue sapphire http://www.wedunit.com.au/products.php?product=Blue-Sapphire-Earrings%2C-Wire-Wrapped-Single-Drops ,

this is a link where you can see much better quality sapphire http://www.wedunit.com.au/products.php?product=Multicolour-Sapphire-Bracelet .

For a similar size stone in the lowest quality of sapphire up to the highest, most expensive, the price difference can be between $5 and $ 2,000 or more.

What is the value of lab created sapphire?

Does anyone know the value of lab created sapphire per carat? Is it true that lab created has the same chemical make up as natural sapphire?

Answer
lab created carried less value, since it’s man made. a natural saphire is a semi precious stone and carries value, but not anywhere near as much as a precious stone like diamonds and emeralds.

Is it possible to get a sapphire that is especially light and translucent?

I picked out my engagement ring, and I’m absolutely in love with it. I intended on getting an aquamarine, but the jeweler suggested a sapphire because aquamarines tend to chip and scratch easier, and especially for long term wear, it’s not such a good idea. She assured me that they can order a sapphire that’s almost as light as an aquamarine.

Do you know if this is true?

Answer
It’s very true. Sapphires are usually baked to give that deep blue colour, yours just won’t have gone through that process (or not to such an extent as usual)

How do you define a Padparadscha sapphire?

I’m looking into buying a padparadscha sapphire engagement ring, but people seem to be WAY overusing the term. What is the difference between a padparadscha and an orange sapphire? And if it is ‘heated’ is it still a genuine padparadscha, or am I better off just buying a pink or orange one? How do you keep from getting ripped off when you’re shopping for one?

Answer
The previous answer has given you a lot of the facts. However a heated stone is not a real padparadscha sapphire and should be sold as “padparadscha coloured sapphire” Also I would take issue on the premium paid for natural stones, it is vastly higher than 50% and treated stones do not sell for any where near the price of an equivalent colour natural stone. (unless, of course, you are dealing with an unreliable trader who is overcharging for the treated stone)I am not against treating stones with the one proviso that it is made absolutely clear to the buyer and also stated on the invoice. Probably your best way to appreciate the colour of a real pad. sapphire is to go to one of the major gem collections and look for yourself, no one can ever describe it to you. You are right the name pad. is being tossed around like rice at a wedding for the simple reason sellers can get better prices for poor stones by using the term, most of the material on the market today is either treated, not from Sri Lanka and not a true pad. colour. You will be far better off buying an orange or pink sapphire that has a colour that you find appealing and so avoid paying over the top for a stone that is doubtful. When you buy a stone be sure to demand a certificate from a respected laboratory stating that your stone is natural and untreated, also make sure it is written on the invoice, in the world as it is you have to protect yourself. I know the name pad. sapphire carries a special kudos but unless you are an expert in gemstones it is far too easy make an expensive mistake with this particular variety.
P.S. congratulations on your engagement.
