Amethyst, Citrine and Ametrine

Joyful Greetings All,

Physically, Amethyst and Citrine are essentially the same crystal. Their chemical formulas vary by only the slightest point: Citrine is SiO2+(Al, Fe3+, Ca, Mg, Li, Na), Amethyst is SiO2+(Al, Fe, Ca, Mg, Li, Na). Basically in plain English, the difference is the Iron in Citrine has oxidized, while the Iron in Amethyst has not.

Ametrine is a zoned version of these crystals. Now, while the physical characteristics of these crystals are similar, they all three offer different energies and vibrations.

  • Thank you; that is exactly the kind of information I was looking for.

I don’t know what to think of having bought two of the same; whether it was a “meant to be” sort of thing, or if I should be upset with the shop owners’ sloppy display or mislabeling. (I’m not sure if someone put the ametrine in the amethyst box purposely, not knowing the difference, or just didn’t take the time to put it in the correct box). I suppose it doesn’t matter either way!

  • Neko, Do not be discouraged or worry, you have 2 great crystals. I also have Amethyst, and I have a Ametrine pyramid !!!! Why????

Amethyst: is like the “Soul Stone” for dreams and pleasant-relaxing sleep, “intuition, psychic work, meditation,” calming, aiding in emotions and letting go and courage.

Citrine: also removes fear, prevents nightmares, helps with sleep and will aid inducing psychic awareness.
Ok  :)
When you combine the 2, “Ametrine” you have reinforcement and enhancement for the purpose of meditation, dream work, healing, etc.
For me the Ametrine is also “grounding” for me because sometimes I do dream work, distant healing via astral projection, or thru meditation with like Moldavite and the Citrine in the Ametrine aids in keeping me grounded!!!!

Citrine in ametrine is a smokey yellow or gold which works for grounding on the lower chakras, The citrine in the Ametrine also energizes/strengthens in positive ways for physical/mental awareness. So it is great support for what I do.

Amethyst, moldavite are the higher chakras. This provides a great balance.
I love my Amethyst, and I love my Ametrine pyramid. Very very happy/blessed I feel to have them. They keep me from getting fuzzy headed with my Moldavite.

I think you will find perhaps that instead of a mistake, actually there is a reason why you ended up with both.
Perhaps finding time to sit quietly and meditate with yours will help you to process, realize, and understand the “energies/gifts” that your union with these crystals are meant to be.

In what Robin Hood computer game did you use amethyst to get a monk drunk?

I played a computer game in the late 1990s featuring Robin Hood in which you must get a monk drunk. You use amethyst to stay sober yourself.

It was a puzzle game similar to King’s Quest as best as I can remember. What’s the name of this game?

Answer
Conquests of The Longbow, by Sierra. You had to win the amethyst from the hermit by playing Nine mans blind (or something) in the pub. I still have the original game (circa 1992) installed on my laptop.

What’s the difference between the Amethyst and Lepidolite stone?

When I seen both of them they seemed the same.
Is there a slight difference physically with them and is there a difference with the spiritual healing properties as well?

Answer
Amethyst is more of a light purple color, and you can see through them. Also known as the elevator. This form of crystal comes in varying shades of purple, ranging from pale mauve to deepest Violet. Amethyst has calming effects.

Lepidolite cannot be seen through and is a beige color. It is known as the peace stone and is said to provide the owner with a guardian angel. It is thought to have a particularly strengthening effect on women.

What year was Amethyst discovered by the greeks?

I’ve been researching this topic for quite a while now and all I could pull out was that it was discovered by the greeks. If no specific date, would amethyst most likely have been discovered in the “Ancient Greece” era?

Answer
This is Greek Mythology

The origin of amethyst name and even explanation for some of it’s healing properties have been founded in the Greek mythology surrounding this semi-precious stone. Amethyst’s origin resides with the god Dionysus (Bacchus) and the goddess Diana. Dionysus, the god of wine, celebration, intoxication and joviality, found insult by a mortal who had refused him acknowledgement. Enraged with anger Dionysus vowed to unleash his fury upon all mortals who did not partake in his gifts of wine and drunkenness. He immediately spotted a young maiden named Amethyst who was pure and unfamiliar with being intoxicated. The unsuspecting young virgin, who was on her way to pay homage to the goddess Diana, was detained by the wrathful god. Dionysus summoned two fiercely voracious tigers to devour the youth and sat back with his wine to watch. Amethyst cried out to Diana. When Diana saw what was about to transpire she quickly transformed the young mortal into a glimmering pure white stone (quartz) to protect her from the vicious wrath of Dionysus. Moved with pity Dionysus realized the ruthlessness of his actions and began to weep with sorrow. As the tears dripped into his goblet Dionysus collapsed and the tear-tainted wine ran out onto the stone from the tipped cup. The white stone then absorbed the color from the wine creating the stone now called amethyst.
