Red Onyx?

I found a necklace I like very much, and the listing (online) says that it is made of Onyx, but the stones are red. It isn’t from a metaphysical site, it’s on Cold Water Creek – so there aren’t any properties listed – I’ve never heard of red onyx and can’t find it elsewhere… anyone know anything about it?   According to my book “The Crystal handbook”, onyx varies in color from black to white or translucent with striated layers of red, pink, brown and/or yellow.
